SPA is a community-based association dedicated to revitalising the famous and historic Strathpeffer Pavilion. The Pavilion is now owned by the Scottish Historic Buildings Trust (SHBT), which restored the actual building in 2003/2004. SPA is continuing to raise funds to finish furnishing and equipping the Pavilion, so that it can be operated as a flexible multi-functional social, cultural and entertainment centre for the whole Highland community.
Membership
Membership of the Association is free (although donations are always welcome) and is open to all who support our aims. You can also become a "Friend of the Pavilion" for an annual subscription of £12.
The SPA Board
All SPA Board members are voluntary, several devote a great deal of time to the Pavilion and all contribute to its success in different ways. All SPA Board members are voluntary, several devote a great deal of time to the Pavilion and all contribute to its success in different ways.
Ivan C. Warwick TD, BD Ivan has been the Parish Minister for
Chairman Fodderty & Strathpeffer since 1999.
He took over the Chairmanship of SPA from
George Tait in 2005. He was a founder
Director of Strathpeffer Community
Association and is Chairman of the local
Council of Voluntary Service.
Christopher Bowen CA, FCCA Kit has lived in Strathpeffer for 26 years and
Deputy Chairman & is a Senior Partner of Saffery Champness,
Financial Director Chartered Accountants
Margaret Spark MRPharmS, JP Margaret is a pharmacist and has lived in
Head of Membership the village for over 30 years. She is a
founder member of “Victorian Strathpeffer”,
Trustee of the Highland Museum of
Childhood, member and past Captain of
Strathpeffer Spa Golf Club.
Justin Calder Justin is a business consultant and former
Area Development Manager of Ross &
Cromarty District Council and later a
Board Member of Ross & Cromarty
Enterprise (RACE).
Jane Chisholm LlB, DipLP, NP Originally from the Central Belt, Jane is
Company Secretary married to a local farmer and has lived in the
Highlands for over 20 years. A qualified
solicitor, she is Senior Partner of
T.S.H. Burns & Son, Dingwall.
Hugh Aberach MacKay A recent addition to the Board, Hugh served
for 35 years in Northern Constabulary,
retiring in 1998 as Superintendent in charge
of Ross, Cromarty & Skye Area Command.
Since then, he has served on the boards of
many voluntary and sporting groups and is
currently Chairman of the Highland Curling
Development Group and Vice-Chairman of
the Northern Branch of the Retired Police
Officers (Scotland) Association. His many
interests include Robert Burns and he chaired
the highly successful first Burns Night in the
restored Pavilion in January 2008.
David MacMaster David has been a prominent member of the
local community for many years. Among his
many activities are the Strathpeffer Highland
Gathering Committee and the Caberfeidh
Shinty Club, one of the oldest such clubs in
Scotland.
Hamish Polson Hamish farms pedigree Aberdeen Angus
cattle, is an architectural technician and
is very well known in the world of Highland
dance music.
John Pritchard Recently appointed to the Board
Dr. Alan Reid Recently appointed to the Board - currently
also Chairman of Strathpeffer Community
Council
Caroline Rham Recently appointed to the Board - a past
editor of The Ross-shire Journal
Margaret Scott BEd Margaret moved to the village over 20 years
ago, having been a senior manager in
education. She runs an acclaimed guest
house and, as Chairman, took a lead role in
the development and build of Strathpeffer
Community Centre.
George Tait George is a business consultant, a past
Chairman of the SPA Board, a past
President of the Black Isle Show and until
recently a Board Member of RACE.
Council representatives: As the main leaseholder of the Pavilion, The Highland Council appoints two representatives to the SPA Board, to represent its interests. These are currently Mrs. Jean Urquhart and Mr. Richard Greene, whom we are delighted to welcome as members of the Board.
